What if I disagree with the services or decisions of the case manager?: Most decisions made by the County are guided by policy, procedure, and statute. If you feel the County made an error in its decision-making, you might be able to appeal those decisions. Contact your case manager or supervisor to determine if the decisions are appealable and to request the appeal form/format.

1. Can I change my case manager?: It is possible to request a change in your case manager and that discussion should first be held with the current case manager. If the reason for the change in case manager cannot be resolved by those conversations, please contact the supervisor.

2. What if I disagree with the services or decisions of the case manager?: Most decisions made by the County are guided by policy, procedure, and statute. If you feel the County made an error in its decision-making, you might be able to appeal those decisions. Contact your case manager or supervisor to determine if the decisions are appealable and to request the appeal form/format.

3. Is IQ testing required to get Developmentally Delayed (DD) case management?: Yes. Minnesota state statute requires prescribed testing by a qualified professional. Additionally, adaptive skills functioning testing may also provide supportive documentation to determine eligibility for case management services.

4. What is a "related condition"?: Related condition is a diagnosis of severe, chronic disability that meets all of the following conditions:
(a) Is attributed to cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, Prader-Willi Syndrome, or any other condition other than mental illness* or an emotional disturbance.
(b) Is found to be closely related to developmental disability because the condition results in impairment of general intellectual functioning or adaptive behavior similar to that of persons with developmental disability and requires treatment or services similar to those required for persons with developmental disability.
(c) Is manifested before the person reaches 22 years of age.
(d) Is likely to continue indefinitely.
(e) Results in substantial functional limitations in three or more of the following areas of major life activity:
* Self-care
* Understanding and use of language
* Learning
* Mobility
* Self-direction
* Capacity for independent living
*For the purpose of Item #1, notwithstanding Minn. Stat. 245.462, Subd. 20, or Minn. Stat. 245.4871, Subd. 15, mental illness does not include autism or other pervasive developmental disorders.

5. Can I still work and remain eligible for disability services?: Generally, yes. Individuals with disabilities and/or their guardians can watch a video that can help explain how earned income can impact your benefits.

6. What is a "Waiver"?: A waiver is a combined federal and state benefit for individuals with certain kinds of disabilities for which can purchase services and goods to meet the identified needs of the person.
