The Blue Earth County Library System (BECLS) invites residents to play a game of BINGO with their reading selections this summer! An adult counterpart to the popular BECLS Summer Reading Program for children, Book BINGO is a fun and easy way for patrons to expand their horizons and challenge themselves to read something different. Categories on this year’s BINGO card include different genres (history, memoir, science, fantasy, western, romance), forms (poetry, essays, short stories), and other groupings (books in translation, books published before 1900, etc.) designed to introduce readers to new and unexpected favorites.
Patrons have until August 31 to form a “BINGO” and win a $5 gift card to Mom & Pop’s Ice Cream, Pub 500, Coffee Hag, or the Wooden Spoon. Completed cards will also be entered into a grand prize drawing to win a Book Lover’s Basket Extravaganza at the end of the summer. This year, for the first time, Book BINGO players can participate either by picking up a printed card from one of the library branches or by signing up at http://www.beclibrary.org/248/Reading-Challenges and completing the challenge online or on their phones through the BECLS’s use of Beanstack software.
This activity is made possible thanks to the generosity of Mom & Pop’s, Pub 500, and BECLS donors. This year, in recognition of the struggles faced by small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the BECLS is encouraging patrons to fill out a second Local Business BINGO card on the back of their Book BINGO card. By visiting shops and restaurants in Old Town and downtown Mankato, players can support locally-owned businesses in the community and earn a second entry into the grand prize drawing.
