The new Blue Earth County Customer Service and Recycling Building at the Ponderosa Landfill is now fully open for use by the public. June 27 marks the first day that the facility will be operational for customers to drop off materials.
Goals of the new facility are to increase safety and convenience for Ponderosa Landfill customers while providing greater opportunities to recycle and store accumulated materials coming to the landfill. Now that the facility is open to the public, general customers and smaller self-hauled business customers will be able to drop off materials at the building, eliminating the need to travel to the fill area where large haulers bring commercial loads of waste. The facility features a modern scalehouse office area and large service building area that offers several options for customers bringing waste to the landfill.
“The new Customer Service and Recycling Building is a project that we’ve been planning for over the course of several years and we are excited that Blue Earth County will now have a facility that is considered a best practice example of how to manage both landfill safety and recycling efforts,” stated Scott Fichtner, Blue Earth County Environmental Services Director. “It’s important that we not only provide safe access to customers, but try to more effectively manage certain recyclable materials and keep them from taking up valuable landfill space. This new facility will help achieve both these goals.”
Summer hours at the Ponderosa Landfill (May to October) are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information about the Ponderosa Landfill visit www.blueearthcountymn.gov/ponderosa.
