[ARCHIVED] Sheriff Announces Local Law Enforcement Scholarship Opportunities

Blue Earth County Sheriff Brad Peterson is accepting local applications for the 2015 Minnesota Sheriff’s Association (MSA) Scholarship Program now through Oct. 15, 2015. Across the state, 15 - $600 scholarships will be awarded in 2015 due to coordinated efforts by the 87 Sheriffs of Minnesota.

“The Minnesota Sheriff’s Association Board of Directors feel peace officers in our democratic society have complex duties to perform,” said Sheriff Brad Peterson. “The association recognizes the importance of pre-entry training for people considering law enforcement as their career choice and that some students need outside help in meeting the costs of such training, even though they excel academically.”

Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories:

• Mandated POST skills program
• In the second year of a two-year law enforcement program
• In the third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice course

In order to qualify, students must have completed at least one year of a two year program and two years of a four year program. The scholarship committee, in making its selection of awards, intends on achieving representation from all geographic areas of the state. Scholarship award recipients will be announced by December 31, 2015.
