[ARCHIVED] Blue Earth County Summer Reading Program Sign-up Begins June 2

Area youth are invited to take part in the 2014 Summer Reading Program at Blue Earth County Libraries in Mankato, Lake Crystal and Mapleton. This year's theme is “Paws to Read” and will offer several fun, educational activities and programs for participants to stay engaged in reading over the summer. Sign-up begins Monday, June 2 and continues with scheduled programs taking place between June 10 through July 31 at all library locations. Participants are able to earn prizes for time spent reading in four age categories; 0 to 3, 4 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 to 17.

New 2014 programs include Carol McCormick’s Tales of Tails; A Discover Deep Valley Bus Tour; the Zinghoppers; Oldenburg Brothers Yo-Yo Program and an evening Finale Carnival on July 31. Other programs back by popular demand are Minnesota Zoobmobile; Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo; Paul Bunyan’s Loggin’, Legends and Lore; Airplane Rides and much more! Programs take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays with varying times depending on location. For a complete listing of programs visit and click on the events calendar.

The Blue Earth County summer reading program is free to all participants and is able to maintain one of the strongest programs in the state thanks to the generosity of all its sponsors. Taylor Corporation (primary sponsor) and Friends of the Deep Valley Libraries remain the library’s largest sponsors of the program. All contributions great and small are all appreciated and ensure that quality programs continue for the youth in our area.
