The Blue Earth County Library System is bringing back its annual Bookmark Contest in 2014. This year’s theme is “My Hometown” with first, second and third place prizes being awarded within each of the following age groups; preschool and kindergarten, first and second grades, third to fifth grade, sixth to eighth grade, ninth to twelfth grade and adults. All bookmark entries are due by February 28, 2014 and originals will not be returned. Entries can be turned in at any of the three Blue Earth County Library locations in Lake Crystal, Mankato and Mapleton or be mailed to the Blue Earth County Library, 100 E. Main Street, Mankato, MN 56001. Winners will be announced in March and all winning entries will be featured on the Blue Earth County Library website and be put on display at the Blue Earth County Library in Mankato. Only first place winning entries will be printed and distributed.
“We’re pleased to bring back the contest and to have the generous support of local sponsors in order to continue the annual tradition with youth and now adults,” stated Tim Hayes, Library Director. “We have amazing local talent and it’s wonderful to be able to highlight that in a fun and creative way for our patrons.”
A special workshop for those interested in participating in the 2014 Bookmark Contest will be held on Sat., Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blue Earth County Library in Mankato. An artist from Twin Rivers Center for the Arts will be on hand to provide advice, show techniques and have supplies available for use in the contest.
The 2014 Blue Earth County Library Bookmark Contest is a cooperative effort with Twin Rivers Center for the Arts, Paragon Printing & Mailing and the Blue Earth County Library System. For more information or to print an entry form visit www.beclibrary.org.
