[ARCHIVED] Blue Earth County Partners with Drummer’s Garden Center on Upcoming Educational Composting Seminar

Blue Earth County Recycling Coordinator, Jean Lundquist, will visit Drummer’s Garden Center and Floral on Sat., Feb. 22 for a special presentation on indoor composting at 10 a.m. The seminar is free of charge and will feature information on using red wigglers to compost kitchen waste that can prove to be both efficient and economical. Red wigglers can help save food waste from the landfill and provide useful plant food in return as a chemical-free alternative to fertilizers.

“Many people think that composting can only be done during the summer months in conjunction with gardening,” stated Jean Lundquist, Blue Earth County Recycling Coordinator. “Indoor composting using red wigglers provides a nice year-round solution, especially during the winter months in Minnesota.”

Those in attendance will be provided informational handouts and a limited number of red wigglers will be available for those interested in getting started with their own bins. For more information regarding the event, call the 24-hour Waste and Recycling Hotline at (507) 304-4242 or visit www.blueearthcountymn.gov.
