[ARCHIVED] Emergency Management Visit Schools for Winter Hazard Awareness Week

Blue Earth County emergency management and City of Mankato public safety emergency management staff plan to meet with local third-grade elementary students within the next couple of weeks as part of Winter Hazard Awareness Week. Students will have an opportunity to assemble their own winter survival kits; interact with emergency management staff and a snowplow operator; view snow removal equipment and learn about snowplow safety.

“We are fortunate to be able to provide this type of fun, yet informative education to students throughout our area due to collaboration with local and state agencies as well as the generous support of area businesses who have helped donate supplies for the kits,” stated Michael Maurer, Blue Earth County Emergency Management Director. “It’s important to provide children with life-saving information that they can take home and share with their families.”

Blue Earth County and City of Mankato partner annually with the National Weather Service and other state, federal, local and non-profit agencies, to promote winter safety education.
