What is a Yellow Ribbon Community?
A Yellow Ribbon Community unites all areas within a community to create a comprehensive network that connects and coordinates agencies, organizations, resources, and employers for the purpose of proactively supporting service members and military families.
South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network
The South Central Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network proclaimed July 27, 2012, includes the counties of Blue Earth, Le Sueur, and Nicollet, and the cities of Amboy, Eagle Lake, Good Thunder, Lake Crystal, Madison Lake, Mankato, Mapleton, Minnesota Lake, Pemberton, Skyline, St. Clair, Vernon Center, Courtland, Lafayette, Nicollet, North Mankato, St. Peter, Cleveland, Elysian, Heidelberg, Kasota, Le Center, Le Sueur, Kilkenny, Montgomery, and Waterville. By synchronizing efforts across these counties, they have partnered with the County Veteran Service Officers to identify veteran needs. They've reached out to these veterans through a marketing and communication plan aimed at getting the Yellow Ribbon support message to every military family.
They also bring military families together through various events, including Mankato Moon Dog baseball games in the summer and babysitting events that allow military parents to finish their Christmas shopping.
Supporting military children is very important to this network. They have committed to identifying the military families within their school districts and have created ongoing training for school administrators and staff.
This group supports all branches of veterans and military personnel, along with their families within the Blue Earth, Nicollet and Le Sueur County area.
