Saving Taxpayer Dollars

Blue Earth County is proud to be a leader when it comes to operating its facilities as efficiently as possible to save taxpayer dollars and keep future generations in mind.

The Blue Earth County Justice Center, completed in 2009, was the first public Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified facility in south central Minnesota which included the first jail in the state to achieve LEED status.

Systems Used in County Facilities

The County operates five main facilities and uses benchmarking systems to closely monitor utility usage and advanced technology to control building thermostats through a single computer station. The Blue Earth County Historic Courthouse and Government Center have also been named Energy Star buildings for the last several years and are considered among the top 25% of energy-efficient buildings in the nation.
