Driver's License for All
Effective October 1, 2023, all Minnesotans can obtain a driver's license regardless of immigration status. To get a driver's license, an applicant who is 21 or older must prove their identity, pass the vision test, and pass the written and driving tests. More information on drive.mn.gov.

REAL IDs:

State Identification Card
- Submit proof of identity.
- Verification of physical disability or mental disability needed for special fee I.D.
- Have a photo taken.
Driver's License (First Time Application)
- Submit proof of identity.

Note: Applicants under 18 of age must have the application signed by parent or guardian and their signature must be notarized.

- Submit current driver's license.
- Take vision and peripheral test.
- Have a photo taken.

New Residents
If you are new to Minnesota, effective August 1, 2023, if you are 21 years old or older, you are no longer required to take a written test to obtain your Minnesota license. You must have a valid license in a different state. This service is available at the Blue Earth County LIcense Center M-F from 8 AM - 4:00 PM. List of required documents.
- If you are under 21 years of age, please go to www.drive.mn.gov to schedule your test. All written tests are done at the State Exam Station located at 2161 Bassett Drive, Mankato.
