Mortgage registry tax is the tax imposed on the recording of a mortgage. The rate of tax is .0023 times the debt secured by mortgage (.0024 for Hennepin and Ramsey counties). Mortgage registry tax is payable to the Blue Earth County Property and Environmental Resources Department and must be paid at the time of recording.
For questions on the tax, exemption forms, and other concerns, you may contact the Blue Earth County Property and Environmental Resources office at (507) 304-4251 or visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue website.
Use the state's MRT1 form to document your claim for an exemption from mortgage tax or the basis of your tax.
