Septic Compliance Inspections

Inspection Needed for a Certificate of Compliance

A compliance inspection is an evaluation, investigation, inspection or other such process conducted for the purpose of issuing a Certificate of Compliance or Notice of Non-compliance.

Compliance inspections are done at various triggered events on a property. These are:
  • Building permits
  • Conditional uses
  • Property Transfer
  • Shoreland Permits
  • Variances
  • Property Divisions
At the time of application for permits a current certificate of compliance needs to be on file with the department or a compliance inspection may need to be done depending on the specifics of the project and the property.

Licensed Inspectors

Compliance inspections are conducted by State licensed septic compliance inspectors. The Department reviews the results of the inspection and decides to either issue a Certificate of Compliance or require the the septic system be fixed or upgraded.
