Functions

Blue Earth County is the agency responsible for receiving all reports of suspected abuse or neglect of vulnerable adults.

Staff from the State of Minnesota or County investigate cases of suspected maltreatment and make a determination on whether the alleged abuse was substantiated, inconclusive, unsubstantiated, or false. Other referrals can be made to regulatory bodies or licensing boards.

Definition of a Vulnerable Adult

A vulnerable adult is someone who:
  • Is 18 years of age or older
  • Is dependent on institutional services (nursing home, hospital, home health, licensed residential facilities such as group home or foster care) OR has a physical, mental, or emotional infirmity or dysfunction that requires help in caring for and protecting themselves

Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC)

Reports of suspected maltreatment of a vulnerable adult are made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to MAARC at 844-880-1574.
