The Citizens Academy program is generally held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm. An optional graduation ceremony will takes place at the end of the program.

Get an Inside Perspective on Government


The Blue Earth County Citizens Academy is a seven-week program designed to give citizens a unique "behind-the-scenes" look at government. The program offers participants insights into how Blue Earth County employees perform their jobs and how each department serves the community.

Classes are taught by county leaders and will cover a variety of topics for participants to learn about, including the sheriff's office, public works, human services, criminal justice system, and environmental services. They will also feature tours of many county buildings, including the:
  • Historic Courthouse
  • Justice Center: courts and county jail
  • Blue Earth County Library
  • Ponderosa Landfill
  • and more!
Classes are held Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm for seven weeks. Class size is limited to 20 participants.

Graduates also receive special recognition at a County Board Meeting following the sessions.
