Floodplain Maps and Ordinance Update

Flood Insurance Rate Map Update

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been working on updating the County's Flood Insurance Rate Maps for many years.  The Flood Insurance Rate Maps are the official floodplain maps for flood insurance and regulations. The maps were approved by FEMA on August 22, 2023.  The maps become effective on February 22, 2024.

The updated floodplain can be viewed with FEMA's interactive Flood Map Changes Viewer map.

The Flood Insurance Study (PDF) for the County has also been updated by FEMA and will also become effective on February 22, 2024.

Floodplain Ordinance

In order for the County to properly administer the floodplain program, the County Floodplain Ordinance must be revised to reference the new Flood Insurance Rate Maps. FEMA and the DNR also have updated standards that must be incorporated to main eligibility in the National Flood Insurance Program. The County Floodplain ordinance must be revised by February 22, 2024.

The County is in the process of updating the ordinance and the PDF documents below describe the process and progress:
